Ramos Shines as Portugal Overcomes Ronaldo Absence Against Denmark

Goncalo Ramos contributed an assist and a first-half goal, helping Portugal put the Cristiano Ronaldo saga behind them during their UEFA Nations League match against Denmark.

Ronaldo departed the squad this week after a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus, signaling a potential end to his international career.

The controversy surrounding Portugal's leading scorer predictably dominated pre-match discussions, but it had minimal effect on the team's early performance against Denmark in Copenhagen.

Ramos, who started ahead of Ronaldo in a previous match and again led the attack, nearly opened the scoring with a shot that struck the post.

Shortly after, he set up the first goal. His pass back to Joao Cancelo was met by the Barcelona full-back, who skillfully finished over Mads Hermansen in the 13th minute, giving Portugal the lead.

Rafael Leao had opportunities denied by Hermansen and a deflection, but Denmark equalized through Mikkel Damsgaard's shot into the far corner.

However, Portugal quickly regained the lead. A swift one-two with Bruno Fernandes sent Ramos clear, and the striker calmly slotted a low shot past the goalkeeper, demonstrating Portugal's potential without their long-standing star.

Hermansen's reflex save with his legs prevented Ramos from scoring a third goal just before halftime.

Portugal aims for a third consecutive win to defend their Nations League title, which they last won in 2025. In Ronaldo's absence, they are on track to maintain their perfect record in the competition.
