Samba: Man City Debut Was 'Mind-Blowing'

Floyd Samba, a 17-year-old Manchester City player, called his senior debut "mind-blowing." He scored twice in the team's 5-0 EFL Cup third-round victory over Norwich City at the Etihad Stadium.

Samba, whose father is former defender Chris Samba, was a key player as Enzo Maresca's rotated squad easily defeated their Championship opponents. The win secured a fourth-round match against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Samba opened the scoring early with a header from a cross by fellow debutant Allan. Rayan Cherki extended City's lead shortly after, capitalizing on a precise pass from Ayyoub Bouaddi to bypass Norwich's defense.

Allan added a third goal following halftime with a solo effort, cutting inside and finishing across the goal. Samba then completed his memorable evening by curling in City's fourth goal before the hour mark, with his father watching from the stands. Ryan McAidoo, another academy player, scored the fifth goal in the final minute.

Reflecting on the match, Samba shared his reaction to finding out he would play.

"Right before the game yesterday, the day before – I knew there would be an opportunity to get some minutes for the first time with the first team. To get a debut like that is mind blowing. I couldn’t believe it myself – but that’s just the beginning, I’ve got a big career ahead of me. It was a great debut," he stated.

The young forward, who joined City's academy at Under-9 level, acknowledged the significant physical and tactical adjustments required to move from youth to senior football.

"I couldn’t be happier right now, being my first senior debut, you have to expect everything to go well, the intensity, the level of players, everything goes up and you have to be able to match it and cope with it, and I think I did well with that," Samba added.
