Dominik Szoboszlai scored a spectacular late volley, booking Liverpool's place in the EFL Cup fourth round with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield.

Despite 10 changes to the lineup, Liverpool took a 2-0 lead through Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo. Tottenham, showing a spirit lacking in their winless Premier League start, fought back with a goal from Conor Gallagher.

Liverpool's goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was busier than his counterpart as Tottenham pressed for an equalizer. However, Szoboszlai sealed the win with a remarkable swerving long-range volley that left Martin Dubravka with no chance.

Tottenham started stronger, with Mamardashvili making a superb reflex save to deny Lucas Bergvall from close range. Mac Allister then punished Spurs for not capitalizing on their early advantage.

Mac Allister opened the scoring with an instinctive curling finish from the edge of the area after the ball broke to him. Mohamed Kudus missed a chance to equalize from close range following a Destiny Udogie cross.

Early in the second half, Gakpo doubled Liverpool's lead, firing past a helpless Dubravka. Tottenham, however, posed more of a threat than in recent league matches. Kudus forced a strong save from Mamardashvili before Gallagher headed in a corner from Matheus Fernandes.

As Spurs pushed for a comeback, Mamardashvili made further saves, including one against Omar Marmoush. In the first minute of stoppage time, Szoboszlai secured the victory. He controlled the ball on his chest, let it bounce, and unleashed a 35-yard thunderbolt, ending Tottenham's hopes of a recovery.
