Walt Disney Golf recently introduced a new statue of Grumpy, celebrating the redesigned quartet of holes on Disney’s Magnolia golf course, now famously dubbed “Grumpy’s Gauntlet.”
This iconic, grumpy yet endearing character from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is positioned near the 14th tee box, the starting point of this challenging three-hole stretch that includes holes 15, 16, and 17. This sequence is renowned for presenting a formidable test, even for seasoned golfers.
Grumpy’s golf bag is thoughtfully equipped with a seven-iron, a tribute to all seven dwarfs, and a replica golf ball featuring the dimple pattern from 1937, the year of the film’s release.
Standing approximately six feet tall, the statue is carved from Carrara marble by Walt Disney Imagineering, utilizing an AI-powered stone-carving robot. It depicts Grumpy with his characteristic scowl atop a rock, accompanied by his famous movie line: “Mark my words, there’s trouble a-brewin’!” This statue is poised to become a highly sought-after spot for memorable photographs among golfers playing the back nine.
Adding to the theme, “Grumpy’s Gauntlet” merchandise, including branded apparel and golf accessories, is now available at the Magnolia pro shop.
The Grumpy statue and merchandise are part of the ongoing improvements to the course, which boasts a prestigious history with many legendary professional golfers having graced its fairways. These enhancements further integrate the whimsical storytelling characteristic of Disney throughout the course.
Managed by Arnold Palmer Golf Management since 2011, Walt Disney World Golf has been recognized by the National Golf Course Owners Association as the 2026 Resort Course of the Year, with Disney’s Magnolia leading the offerings.
Adjacent to Magnolia, Disney’s Palm Golf Course offers a slightly shorter, yet equally strategic golfing experience.
For a more leisurely and scenic round, Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course features a layout that has also hosted significant events. It is currently undergoing renovations and is expected to reopen later this year, though the pro shop remains open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For those with limited time or playing with family, Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course is an excellent choice. This 9-hole, walking-only course is perfect for quicker games and skill development. It is also part of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, offering opportunities to observe local wildlife.
Oak Trail also offers a unique twist with FootGolf on several afternoons a week. This sport combines elements of soccer and golf, where players use their feet to kick a soccer ball into oversized holes. It’s a fun, fast-paced, and surprisingly competitive activity, especially for groups.
Golfers can test their skills and aim for bragging rights on “The Greatest Green Ever Played.” This 18-hole putting course, launched in 2024, is accessible to all guests. It pays homage to the remarkable 1913 U.S. Open success of amateur golfer Francis Ouimet, as depicted in the Walt Disney Pictures film “The Greatest Game Ever Played” (2005).
While a destination built on imagination, golf may not be the immediate association. However, for those who play here, it becomes evident that the magic extends to what has come to be known as “The Happiest Place on Turf!”
