Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen has clarified her decision to withdraw from her third-round match against Linda Noskova at the WTA-1000 tournament in Beijing.

“I played a lot, put a great strain on my body, and started feeling discomfort. This was expected. So I decided to stop if the pain intensified, to avoid making the injury worse,” Zheng explained.

She further elaborated on her next steps: “Now I need to undergo further examination, including an MRI, to assess the condition of my elbow after these two matches.” Zheng emphasized that while tennis teaches one to overcome obstacles, it is equally important to exercise prudence when it comes to one`s health.

“I hope the situation will improve over time,” Zheng concluded.

The rising star retired from her match against Noskova in the third set due to an issue with her right elbow, an area where she had previously undergone surgery. Notably, this marked her first tournament appearance since Wimbledon, adding to the demanding schedule that likely contributed to her current physical strain.
