Russian Merited Coach Viktor Yanchuk has commented on Mirra Andreeva`s defeat by Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. The match ended with a score of 4-6, 6-7(5).
Quoted by TASS, Yanchuk described it as “a disappointing loss,” but noted that even though Mirra was defeated in straight sets, the match itself was evenly balanced. He stated, “Gauff was a bit sharper and slightly luckier. Mirra had chances to win the tie-break, she missed many opportunities, and who knows how the match would have ended if it had reached a deciding set. In any case, this is valuable experience, and reaching the quarter-finals is a good result for a player in the world`s top ten.”
This quarter-final meeting in Rome marked the fourth time Mirra Andreeva has played Coco Gauff, and the American player has won all four encounters.
