Respected Russian coach Viktor Yanchuk has lauded Karen Khachanov`s level of play at the Barcelona Open, following Khachanov`s quarterfinal win against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Khachanov, currently ranked No. 27 in the world, defeated Spain`s Davidovich Fokina, ranked No. 30, in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 at the ATP 500 event in Barcelona, Spain.
“It`s a great win, and it`s clear Karen is in good shape. He`s gaining stability with each match,” Yanchuk stated in an interview with TASS. “During today`s match, he had to recover after losing his serve, but he found a way to regain balance and not let his opponent get too far ahead. Karen played a very strong match and demonstrated his class.”
In the Barcelona ATP 500 semifinal, Khachanov is set to face Denmark`s Holger Rune, the world No. 13, who defeated defending champion Casper Ruud.
