Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly in discussions to move their upcoming Premier League match away to Aston Villa, currently scheduled for Sunday, May 18. This potential change is aimed at providing Ange Postecoglou`s side with a better advantage should they reach the Europa League final on Wednesday, May 21, in Bilbao, Spain.

Tottenham are trying to move a Premier League game to help their Europa League cause
Tottenham are seeking to move a Premier League match to potentially aid their Europa League campaign.

While these pre-emptive plans are in motion, sources within the club emphasize that Tottenham is in no way underestimating their semi-final opponents, Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt. The club`s proactive engagement with the Premier League is intended to give supporters ample time to make necessary travel and accommodation arrangements if the fixture is indeed rescheduled.

Tottenham still have Bodo/Glimt to overcome in the Europa League semi-finals
Tottenham must first overcome Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-finals.

Although the potential new date is yet to be determined, it is understood that Friday, May 16, would not be the alternative day for the match.

Tottenham released a statement informing fans: “We should like to inform supporters that we are in discussions with the Premier League regarding a change in date to our away Premier League match against Aston Villa, currently scheduled for Sunday May 18.”

They added: “Further information surrounding this fixture will be announced in due course.”

For Tottenham, success in the Europa League is paramount this season, particularly after a disappointing Premier League campaign where they currently sit in 16th place. Manager Ange Postecoglou`s tenure could heavily rely on the team`s performance and outcome in the European competition.

Bodo/Glimt has demonstrated their capability, having notably eliminated Lazio in the previous round and secured a comfortable victory against Olympiacos earlier in the tournament.

Spurs are set to host the first leg of the semi-final against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, followed by the return leg in the Arctic Circle a week later.

In the other Europa League semi-final, Manchester United will face Athletic Bilbao.

Should Tottenham win the Europa League, it would mark their first major trophy in 17 years and secure automatic qualification for the prestigious Champions League.
