The former England captain experienced discomfort from nipple chafing during the 26.2-mile race.

Terry, 44, visibly struggled, with blood visible through his T-shirt when he was shown on television during the event.

Cramp also forced him to slow to a walk at one stage.

Despite the difficulties and hot conditions, the Chelsea legend finished the course in just over five hours.

On Monday morning, he posted on his Instagram story, sharing a picture of his wife Toni tending to his aching legs.

He playfully captioned the image: “Stiff in all the wrong places.”

Terry followed this with two further posts, showing himself using a sauna and an ice bath for recovery.

Former Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci also ran in London, finishing just two minutes behind Terry and Morris.

Arsenal fan favourite Jack Wilshere, who travelled to London after managing Norwich on Saturday, completed the race in five hours and four minutes.

Speaking to SunSport after finishing, Terry described the marathon as the “toughest thing I`ve ever done.”

Terry retired from playing in 2018 after one season with Aston Villa in the Championship.

He then took up an assistant manager role at Villa Park in October of the same year, working alongside Dean Smith.

He departed the Birmingham club in 2021 for a coaching consultancy position back at Chelsea, before Dean Smith brought him back into coaching staff at Leicester City in 2023.

In July of that year, Terry returned to Chelsea`s Cobham training ground again, this time as an academy coach.
