Southampton supporters have strongly criticized the club`s social media account for celebrating surpassing Derby County`s record for the fewest points ever earned in a Premier League season.
After securing their 12th point with a 0-0 draw against Manchester City, the already-relegated Saints officially moved past Derby`s 2007-2008 tally of 11 points.

Southampton, sitting at the bottom of the league and destined for the Championship, managed to hold Manchester City, who are chasing a Champions League spot, despite facing 26 shots.
This prompted a playful jab from the official Saints account on X (formerly Twitter) at the end of the match, stating: “Sorry if we got your hopes up, @dcfcofficial.”

However, this “humiliating” post angered many other fans, who pleaded with the club, which has now registered six draws, to remove it.
One fan commented: “This is embarrassing as f***. Please delete this. On behalf of Every saints fan.”
Another stated: “Even for bait this is proper tragic, head would be on Mars if I was a Saints fan.”
A third simply added: “This is embarrassing 😶.”
A football fan from elsewhere remarked: “Imagine bragging about being the second worst team in Premier League history 😂.”
The article notes that Saints fans might not appreciate the comments from goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (attributed in the source text) regarding passing the Derby tally.
The goalkeeper expressed relief, stating he was “Delighted” to avoid the record, acknowledging it wasn`t a great tally but was a relief after a difficult season. He mentioned it was for the fans and players who gave their best, highlighting the difficulty of coming in after heavy defeats. He praised the team`s concentration and personality against City and credited the defense for making it hard for the opponent.
To be fair to Southampton, avoiding Derby`s record has been a significant talking point, and they have now successfully done so.
Interim manager Simon Rusk had previously urged his team to finish their Premier League campaign “with as much dignity as possible.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City`s draw prevented them from guaranteeing a top-five spot and kept them from moving level on points with Arsenal, who are currently second.
Pep Guardiola`s team remains in third place with 65 points, still within reach of other teams competing for Champions League spots, including Newcastle, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa.
