Sean Brady Declares Himself the Number One Welterweight Title Contender

Sports news » Sean Brady Declares Himself the Number One Welterweight Title Contender

UFC`s top-ranked welterweight fighter, Sean Brady, has expressed his strong belief that he should be the next challenger for the divisional championship title.

Pointing to his official standing in the rankings, Brady stated, “I am the number one contender. The number one is right next to my name, which means I am the first contender. Shavkat [Rakhmonov] is number two, even though there`s talk that he might be next. But if you look at who he has faced recently, and who I have beaten, it becomes very clear that I am the one who deserves the shot.”

Brady added that he is not planning to passively await an uncertain opportunity. While he feels ready for the title fight now, he is also open to facing Shavkat Rakhmonov if the UFC mandates it. “I`m not going to wait for something that is not guaranteed,” Brady affirmed. “If the UFC wants me to fight Shavkat, I agree… I am confident that I am the best fighter in the world, on this planet, so if I need to defeat Shavkat before challenging for the belt, I am prepared to do that.” His comments were reported by MMA Fighting.

This declaration comes as the current welterweight champion, Belal Muhammad, is scheduled to defend his title against Jack Della Maddalena. That bout will serve as the main event for UFC 315 on May 10th in Montreal, Canada.
