Former coach of tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams, Rick Macci, has offered his thoughts on how world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz could elevate his game and make significant strides forward.
“Believe it or not,” Macci began, “I think if they are willing to—and only if they don`t exclusively consult with a sports science expert—they should experiment with his platform stance on the serve. I truly believe this is how he can reach the next level. While he already possesses formidable weapons and hits with immense power, there are a few too many double faults. It`s understandable, as he`s a brave player. However, his first-serve percentage, in my view, is simply too low.”
Macci emphasized that the issue is not related to Alcaraz`s height. “He won`t grow any taller, so that aspect is fixed. I would simply love to tell them: `Hey, try this out. Implement various corrective techniques and see what truly works for you`.”
“The best athletes in any discipline constantly make adjustments to their game, especially in tennis, where technique is paramount,” Macci concluded in an interview with Tennis365. “And the serve is one of the easiest elements to modify if you understand its scientific principles, precisely because it is executed from a stationary position, not in motion.”
