Legendary tennis player and 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal, has been officially granted an honorary doctorate by the University of Salamanca.
As one of Europe`s oldest universities, founded in 1218, the University of Salamanca bestows honorary doctorates upon distinguished figures in science, art, sports, and public life. Notably, Nadal is the first athlete in the venerable institution`s history to receive such a high honor.

However, the conferral process was not entirely unanimous, as 34% of the voters expressed opposition to the renowned tennis player`s candidacy.
