Premier League Explains Why Adams Avoided Red Card for Garnacho Tackle

Sports news » Premier League Explains Why Adams Avoided Red Card for Garnacho Tackle

Premier League authorities have issued a statement defending the decision not to send off Tyler Adams during Bournemouth`s recent match against Manchester United.

The Bournemouth midfielder was shown only a yellow card for a forceful challenge on Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho.

Tyler Adams received a yellow card for a wild tackle on Manchester United`s Alejandro Garnacho.
The yellow card decision was confirmed after a VAR review.

During the first half of the game, Adams` tackle on the young Argentine player appeared to lift both his feet off the ground.

Referee Peter Bankes initially issued a yellow card to the American player. This ruling was later upheld by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) following a review.

The Premier League subsequently clarified the decision through its official Match Centre X account.

The statement read: “The referee’s decision of a yellow card for the challenge by Adams on Garnacho was reviewed and confirmed by VAR. The tackle was judged to be reckless, but not meeting the threshold for serious foul play.”

Responding to this on social media, one fan expressed outrage, saying: “NO RED CARD FOR ADAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE F*** THAT'S A CLEAR RED!!!!!!!!!!! NEARLY KILLED GARNACHO!!!!!"

Another commentator noted: “Rashford was sent off for something similar last season. Joke decision.”

A third user added their opinion: “If that tackle was made by Casemiro, it would definitely be a red. Terrible decision.”

Shortly after the controversial tackle, Bournemouth took the lead in the match via Antoine Semenyo.

Later in the first half, Manchester United supporters were also left frustrated by the officials regarding two separate penalty appeals.

Harry Maguire appeared to be impeded in the penalty area on two occasions. However, the referee`s on-field decision of no penalty was maintained by VAR, which did not recommend a pitchside review for either incident.
