Dustin Poirier, the celebrated American mixed martial artist and former interim UFC lightweight champion, has officially announced that his upcoming bout will mark the conclusion of his professional fighting career.

This final fight is scheduled to be a highly anticipated trilogy clash against former featherweight champion Max Holloway. The matchup is slated to headline UFC 318 on July 19 in New Orleans, USA. This will be the third meeting between the two veterans, with Poirier having secured victories in their previous encounters in 2012 and 2019.

Poirier shared his sentiments regarding the decision and the significance of the location:

“This will be my last fight. I’ll leave my gloves in Louisiana, where it all started for me. My entire story began there, and it is a great honor for me that the UFC and the state of Louisiana were on the same wavelength and helped make this happen. On July 19, we will fight Max Holloway. Five rounds, the main event of the evening, a fight at a numbered tournament for his BMF title.”

Both fighters are returning to the octagon following losses in their most recent outings, which were title challenges. Dustin Poirier suffered a submission defeat to Islam Makhachev in June of last year, while Max Holloway was knocked out by Ilia Topuria in October of the same year.
