Stearns secured a significant victory against Japan`s Naomi Osaka, the world No. 48, with the match ending in a hard-fought 6/4, 3/6, 7/6(4) scoreline.
Immediately after shaking hands and concluding the match, the young American player was observed going behind the umpire`s chair, where she reportedly vomited.
Looking ahead in the Rome `thousand-level` event, Peyton Stearns is set to compete in the quarterfinals. Her next opponent will be the winner of the upcoming match between Ukraine`s Elina Svitolina and fellow American Danielle Collins.
