Renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou has shared his expectations for Jannik Sinner`s return after a three-month absence.
`Jannik already has good news: during his absence, no one has taken his place. Novak Djokovic reached the final in Miami but didn`t win, and Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev didn`t perform their best. If Alcaraz had won in Indian Wells and Miami, which is possible for him, he would have approached Sinner`s return with greater confidence.
We have seen what Sinner has had to face and how many victories he has achieved despite that. He has a top-class mentality: he was the strongest three months ago and will be the strongest upon his return. During this period, others had a chance not only to gain points but also to win tournaments and gain confidence to challenge him more decisively. However, they didn`t succeed,` Mouratoglou stated.
The specialist was also asked about the collective demand from top players to increase prize money at Grand Slams.
`A solution needs to be found because, for me, it is abnormal – considering the money circulating in this business – that only the top 100 players actually earn a living from tennis. For me, this is one of the main problems. Previously, no one tried to do anything for them. I believe that for the future of tennis, it is very important to ask and ensure that such athletes receive more.`
