Patrick Mouratoglou, former coach of Holger Rune, has shared his insights on players he believes possess the capability to rival Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the tennis world over the next few years.
“Everyone asks me: who can truly compete with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the coming years? For this, a tennis player must have everything: an excellent forehand, an excellent backhand, a remarkable serve, superb movement, and a fantastic mindset. That`s a lot,” Mouratoglou stated in a recent social media update.
He then listed his top five prospects: “Several names come to mind: Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Joao Fonseca, Holger Rune, and Jack Draper. All these names show us that tennis has a bright future. But at the same time, they demonstrate how difficult it is to reach the top.”
Offering a contrasting perspective, tennis legend Marat Safin expressed a more skeptical view on the current level of competition for Alcaraz and Sinner. “No one is even close,” Safin remarked. “I wouldn`t complain about the courts – I`d complain about the level.”
