O’Malley’s Coach: “Sean’s Move to Featherweight is Possible”

Tim Welch, the coach of former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, has suggested that his fighter could potentially transition to the featherweight division later in his career.

Welch elaborated on the feasibility of such a move, citing O`Malley`s physical characteristics. “Moving to featherweight is definitely possible. Sean is 180 cm tall, and his usual weight is 73 kg. If we spend about six to seven months to add a couple of kilos of muscle, he can easily compete with most featherweights,” Welch stated in comments reported by BJ Penn.

Currently, O`Malley is focused on his upcoming fight. He is scheduled for a rematch against Merab Dvalishvili in the main event of UFC 316 in Newark, USA, on June 7th. O`Malley lost his bantamweight title to Dvalishvili in their previous encounter in September of the past year.
