World No. 11 Daniil Medvedev recently shared insights into his preparation for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome.
Asked about any specific steps taken to prepare for the Rome event, particularly mentioning a new physiotherapist in Madrid, Medvedev replied:
“Yes, I had a new physio with me in Madrid, who won`t be here [in Rome]. I`ve been looking for a physio for a while now. For me, my team is always a special place, I can`t just take anyone. The person needs to fit in with the team. We worked together well in Madrid. I will have a different physio here. Other than that, there`s nothing especially different. I flew here directly after Madrid. The question always comes up: should I go home for two days, a day and a half, or three days? Three days might be too close to the start of the tournament. So, I decided to come straight here. I`m training, preparing, we`ll see.”
Regarding the return of Jannik Sinner and whether it would be surprising if Sinner`s game and confidence remained unaffected by his break, Medvedev was unequivocal:
“Absolutely not surprising at all. With anyone else, I think I would watch and think: `Oh, interesting, the first match, the second match could be very difficult.` I don`t have that feeling with Jannik. He has established himself so well over the last, probably especially the last six months. The past year, but particularly the last six months, he`s performed great in every tournament he plays. And because of that, I think all players get the feeling that he will come out now and perform well. But life isn`t always that easy, so we`ll see, it will be interesting.”
