However, his replacement, Altay Bayindir, also had a difficult game as United lost 4-1 at St James Park.

This situation has given the manager a big concern before Thursday’s important match against Lyon.

Looking ahead, the future of both goalkeepers is uncertain as United plans for a summer team overhaul.

Finding a new goalkeeper is becoming urgent for the manager, and Ramsdale – who is also being watched by West Ham – has become a possible option.

Ramsdale, previously with England, Arsenal, and Sheffield United, is expected to leave Southampton after their relegation at the end of the season.

Despite Southampton`s poor season, Ramsdale`s reputation remains positive, and he is still considered a top goalkeeper in the country.

United has been scouting his recent matches and believes his Premier League experience could be valuable in fixing their defensive issues.

However, West Ham is also competing for Ramsdale. Their manager, Graham Potter, reportedly sees Ramsdale as a key signing for their summer rebuild.

Ramsdale is attracting interest from зарубежные клубы as well. However, it is understood that he prefers to stay in England and in the Premier League to improve his chances of being selected for the England national team.

Bayindir’s performance on Sunday was unwelcome news for the Manchester United manager.

After taking Onana out of the spotlight for the Newcastle game, the manager watched as Bayindir conceded four goals in a heavy defeat at St James` Park.

Adding to the problems, Bayindir was responsible for Newcastle`s fourth goal due to a poor pass.

“We made many mistakes that made winning difficult – that`s all,” said the manager. “It`s a combination of factors, not just one thing.”

With a crucial Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon coming up on Thursday, United is eager to move past the defeat.

But the manager now faces a critical decision on whether to bring back Onana or continue with Bayindir.
