Australian star Nick Kyrgios confessed that he experienced significant nervousness during his exhibition match against the current world No. 1, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. The highly anticipated “Battle of the Sexes” concluded with a decisive 6-3, 6-3 victory in favor of Kyrgios.

Speaking after the contest, the Australian detailed the emotional weight and pressure he felt being back on the court against such a formidable opponent.

“Was I nervous? Of course, I was nervous,” Kyrgios stated. “I think very few people would willingly put themselves in that situation, especially given my recent status and lengthy time away from competitive play. Aryna was completely ready for the challenge. The score was actually much closer than it might appear on paper.”

Kyrgios emphasized the fluctuating intensity of the game, acknowledging Sabalenka`s ability to turn the tide at any moment.

“I felt immense pressure—she almost immediately got the break back. Once the crowd starts getting behind her, things can change instantly,” he explained. “I was genuinely nervous. The whole world had been talking about this match for the past six months.”

Reflecting on his career status, Kyrgios highlighted the emotional significance of his return following an injury layoff.

“When you consider where I was two years ago—I couldn`t even use my right hand—to come back and compete against a truly great player like Aryna, it is honestly very emotional,” he concluded.
