Former boxer Kostya Tszyu has shared his opinion on the decision of Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina, currently ranked 12th in the world, regarding a potential change of her sports citizenship.
Tszyu, who was born in the Sverdlovsk region, moved to Australia in 1992 and obtained Australian citizenship, offered his perspective.
“I obtained an Australian passport, but I did not renounce my Russian one, nor will I ever. To get citizenship there, you need to reside in the country for several years. I honestly don`t know what advantages it will give her, except maybe easier international travel.
For me, getting an American visa takes just two hours, and logistics become much simpler. However, when it comes to taxes, Australia has very high rates. It`s 48 cents per dollar for individuals and slightly less for legal entities. So, from a tax standpoint, there are definitely no benefits there,” Tszyu stated, as quoted by TASS.
