Roy Keane strongly criticized Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir for his mistake during the game against Newcastle, saying, “This is big boy stuff.”

Bayindir, the Turkish goalkeeper, was chosen to play in the starting lineup on Sunday after Andre Onana`s poor performance against Lyon.

Bayindir made a significant error for Newcastle`s final goal.

This game was Bayindir’s first Premier League start for United, after he moved from Fenerbahce for £4million last summer.

However, the 26-year-old had a terrible game at St James’ Park as Newcastle dominated and won 4-1.

Bayindir couldn`t stop three goals in the first 64 minutes of the match.

Things became even worse 13 minutes later when he made a bad short pass from his own penalty area.

Joelinton intercepted the ball and passed it to Bruno Guimaraes.

The Newcastle captain then scored past Bayindir, completing a disappointing day for the United goalkeeper.

Speaking after the match, former Manchester United captain Keane criticized Bayindir`s performance.

Keane believes Bayindir lacked the necessary awareness to play as a goalkeeper at this high level.

Keane said that Bayindir was at fault, emphasizing the poor decision-making. He questioned the benefit of making such a risky pass, especially when it`s unnecessary.

He stated that at the highest level, good decision-making is crucial.

Keane mentioned that while he usually defends goalkeepers who are new to a team to allow them time to adjust to the speed of shots, Bayindir`s basic mistake was incomprehensible.

“This is big boy stuff,” Keane exclaimed. “You`re playing away at Newcastle, a team in great form, and you need to be aware of the game situation and potential pressure.”

Keane suggested that if Bayindir intended to make a long clearance, he should have ensured it went far enough to avoid immediate danger.

He concluded that losing the ball in such a position directly leads to a goal opportunity for the opposition, highlighting it as a matter of common sense.

Fellow football expert Les Ferdinand agreed with Keane, noting a trend of goalkeepers trying to be overly precise and clever in modern football.

Ferdinand suggested that Bayindir should have simply cleared the ball, especially when the team was already losing 3-1, to prevent conceding a fourth goal due to a preventable mistake. He questioned Bayindir’s attempt to make a short, risky pass to a teammate in that situation, expressing bewilderment at the decision.
