Former world number eight John Isner commented on Novak Djokovic`s decision to participate in the Shanghai Masters tournament.
Isner believes Djokovic is playing in Shanghai because he has had numerous breaks this season and aims to maintain his competitive rhythm for the upcoming year. According to Isner, if Djokovic`s plans for next season were different, he would not be competing in Shanghai, as too long a break could negatively impact his form.
The American tennis player also remarked that it would be interesting to observe Djokovic`s next steps after Shanghai. He recalled that last year Djokovic skipped the autumn season, including the ATP Finals in Turin and the Paris Masters. Isner speculated that if Shanghai turns out to be Djokovic`s final tournament of the year, it might indicate his desire to conclude the season on a positive note with strong matches before shifting his focus to preparing for the Australian Open. Isner made these comments on the `Nothing Major` podcast.
