World No. 1 Jannik Sinner shared his thoughts following his victory over Francisco Cerúndolo in the fourth round of the Rome Masters, with the match concluding 7/6(2), 6/3.
“Cerúndolo is a very tough opponent, and this match truly tested me, especially at this time as I`m adapting to many challenging situations on the court,” Sinner commented. “In the first set, I got the break, but after he immediately broke back, I focused on staying composed and fighting for every single point. When I was leading 5-1 [in the tiebreak], I was well aware I needed to remain vigilant – things can change rapidly. I am very content; I feel that I am making progress. My performance today was better than in previous matches, which is encouraging. It was a long day, and the incredible support from the crowd was a huge help.”
How are you feeling physically?
“I will assess that after I`ve had time to recover from the match. It`s going to be a busy evening; there`s a lot that needs to be done for my recovery. But I`m just glad to be back playing after being out for three months. I feel fortunate to be here. From this point on, we`ll see how things develop,” Sinner stated during his press conference.
With this win, Jannik Sinner has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters.
