Jannik Sinner on Session Differences

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, the Italian star, was asked about his preference for playing matches in either morning or evening sessions at ATP tournaments.

Sinner explained the varying conditions: “I don`t know if I prefer playing during the day or in the evening. It depends on the opponent. In the evening, the ball travels slightly slower and bounces lower, allowing for harder shots. During the day, you need to utilize more spin and angles. Every match presents a unique challenge. Based on my first match here, I`d lean towards an evening slot. But this preference can shift daily.”

Sinner recently secured a victory over Dutchman Jesper de Jong at the Rome Masters. His next opponent in the tournament will be Francisco Cerundolo.

Sinner also shared his thoughts on the match against de Jong.

He reflected on the win, stating: “Physically, the match felt good. I felt quite decent. Of course, matches can vary. Today I started very well but then had a dip. Usually, that period is shorter, but today it lasted a bit longer. That`s normal though, considering I`ve had a significant break from playing. Any chance to play more matches in the tournament is very positive. Being able to continue competing is highly beneficial for my progress.”
