World No. 2 Jannik Sinner discussed how his three-month absence at the start of the season, due to a suspension, affected his physical form towards the end of the current year.
During a press conference, Sinner was asked:
You missed three months at the start of the year. How has that impacted the current stage of the season? You`ve played fewer matches than usual – do you feel fresher compared to previous years?
It`s not easy,
Sinner replied. I think last year we also planned the season quite well. I had a great finish because I skipped some tournaments.
I can`t say whether that choice was right or wrong. You never really know for sure. I try to understand my body better, although at 23-24 years old, it`s not straightforward because you`re still young and don`t fully comprehend what`s best for you. So, at such times, it`s crucial to have the best support staff by your side.
Missing three months… It`s easier to accept such a situation if you`re injured. This year, the circumstances were different, and it wasn`t easy. Nevertheless, I used that time for intense work. We trained a lot, and I feel that I`m getting a bit stronger physically each time.
However, last year, I also approached the end of the season feeling fresh, thanks to decisions made earlier. That`s how things stand,
Sinner concluded at the press conference after the Beijing tournament.
