Sports news » Jack Draper Reflects on Tough Wimbledon Exit to Čilić

British world number 4 Jack Draper summarized his second-round match at Wimbledon. He suffered a surprising loss to 36-year-old Croat Marin Čilić with a score of 4/6, 3/6, 6/1, 4/6.

“I`m very upset. This is probably one of the toughest defeats of my career,” Draper stated. “Today, Čilić played an incredible match from start to finish. He deserved to win, he didn`t give up.”

He added, “I`m very disappointed with my performance on grass this season. At the Queen`s Club tournament, I didn`t feel very well. I don`t even understand how I managed to reach the semi-finals there.”

“Many issues have emerged for me on grass this year. On clay, I felt really good. As soon as I transitioned to grass, I immediately noticed a significant difference.”

“And this isn`t about pressure. I simply didn`t play well enough today.”

Regarding his opponent, Draper commented, “As for Čilić, I`m not surprised by his level of play. He is one of the fine tennis players who has won a Grand Slam tournament. Today he was significantly better than me,” Draper concluded at the post-match press conference.
