Russian tennis players, world No. 7 Mirra Andreeva and her doubles partner Diana Schneider, have shared their methods of preparing for doubles tournaments.
– You communicate a lot during matches, more than any other rivals I`ve seen. What do you talk about?
Schneider: We have a mix, so to speak. Of course, we talk about the game, about what we want to do next. Both Mirra and I often joke to defuse the situation. Sometimes there are emotions, sometimes the score is tight – and these jokes make it easier and we play with more positive emotions.
– Let me ask a deliberately amateur question. I watched you during training, and you were on opposite sides of the net. You, Mirra, with Martinez, you, Diana, with your brother.
– Sometimes with my brother, sometimes with my dad.
– But how does it help to adjust interaction if you are on opposite sides of the net?
Andreeva: I would say that in general it doesn`t help at all. But we have a lot of doubles exercises, and in general we focus on training in general. I like to spar with Diana, because we practically never make mistakes and play one ball back and forth all the time. Therefore, training sessions are always super, we have a connection, everything is fine.
– Do you have favorite tournaments as a pair? Now it`s clear that Miami, but before that?
Andreeva: We love Australia. But most of the year is still ahead, so ask us about it next year!
