Top Irish UFC welterweight Ian Garry recently discussed his December bout against Kazakh fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Despite the official result, Garry maintains his perspective on the fight. “I still believe that I did not lose that fight. He was struggling to breathe and was grateful that the fight ended. But I was ready to continue. The strongest feeling after that fight was joy. I was very proud and happy that I fought against the most dangerous fighter in the division on short notice and put on such a performance,” Garry stated.

He added that facing Rakhmonov reinforced his conviction about his future in the sport. “The fight with Shavkat showed that I am definitely destined to become the best in the world, to become a champion. And the time will come when we meet again, and I will prove to the world that I am better as a fighter,” the Irishman told ESPN MMA.

Garry is set to return to the octagon this weekend. He will compete at the UFC on ESPN 66 tournament in Las Vegas, USA, facing Brazilian opponent Carlos Prates.
