British tennis player Harriet Dart, ranked 62nd in the world, has apologized to her opponent for an on-court comment regarding body odor.
During her match against French player Lois Boisson at a tournament in Rouen, Dart was heard asking the chair umpire: “Could you please ask her to put on deodorant? She smells really bad.”
Dart later addressed the incident, stating: “I want to apologize for what I said on court. It was said in the heat of the moment, and I sincerely regret it.”
“That`s not the way I want to conduct myself, and I take full responsibility. I have a lot of respect for Lois and for how she played today.”
“I will learn from this and move forward,” Dart concluded in a social media story.
Boisson responded humorously to the situation. She posted a photo on social media, jokingly photoshopping a deodorant stick into her hand, and wrote: “Dove, we should definitely collaborate.”
