World No. 70 Filipina Alexandra Eala shared insights into what she adopted for her game from two tennis legends during her childhood: 14-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal and five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova.
“I watched a lot of Sharapova when I was younger, and she passed on to me that resilience and power. But honestly, I think what I loved most as a kid were her outfits!” Eala told Tennis Channel in a recent interview. “And I absorbed a lot of my fighting spirit by watching Nadal.”
At the ongoing WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, Eala is set to face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the first round. The tournament runs from May 6th to 17th, with Poland`s Iga Świątek being the defending champion.
