Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, currently ranked 14th in the world, shared his analysis of the key moments that led him to victory in the ATP 250 tournament quarter-final match in Almaty. He defeated Hungarian athlete Fabian Marozsan in two sets with a score of 7/5, 6/2.
Medvedev commented on the critical junctures of the match:
“Well, on match points, these things happen. At 40/0, I slightly missed the second serve. I thought, `Why just serve it in?` I took a risk and missed by just a little. At 40/15, I went to the net and could have played a bit better. So, in every rally, you can explain some logic. I`m glad that when it was `deuce`, I managed to gather myself, and two aces came at just the right time for me. So, everything worked out perfectly there. The same thing happened at 4/5 at the end of the first set. Such important, key moments occur in every match – both in your favor and against you. And as soon as you get a break point, you have to try to convert it. The same applies to him. In this match, arguably, that was the only game, besides the very last one, where there was any real fight on my serve.”
He continued, reflecting on the overall flow of the game:
“Basically, all the other games I went through easily. Yes, of course, there were a couple of times when he guessed where I would serve the first ball and returned it well. But I`m glad I was able to fight for those balls, especially at 30/40. I played excellently myself. I was slightly on the defensive, but luckily, he couldn`t push me all the way. These things happen. I`m glad I was able to win in two sets.”
