World No. 11 Daniil Medvedev commented on changing his outfit several times during his opening match at the Monte Carlo Masters against Karen Khachanov (7-5, 4-6, 6-4).

“Actually, it was chilly all day. It was cold during the warm-up, and a cold wind was blowing. Last year in Madrid, it was very cold, and I got injured, so now I prefer to dress warmly: long pants and sleeves, and take them off during the match if needed.”

“But when I went out, I don’t know, maybe the central court is a bit more protected from the wind, I immediately felt quite hot. In fact, it would have been better if I hadn’t worn pants. Because of them, my body got much hotter, and because of this, you get tired much faster. But it`s okay, I understood that in the first set I would have to play in them anyway.”

– But Mom would be happy that you put on leggings and went to play.

“Mom has nothing to do with it. I`ve never worn them before. But in Madrid, it was really very cold, and then I just ran for a drop shot and bam, something twinged. So I decided that if it`s cold, it`s better to play it safe.”

– You can say that you are playing in a home tournament here. Does this help somehow?

“Yes, it`s nice, I sleep at home. Everything is close, everything is familiar. I rarely [am] with children at tournaments. It`s cool. Does it help? In different ways. But it`s always nice that during a tournament you can be at home.”

– If taxes did not exist in the whole world, would you still choose Monaco? Or would it be another place?

“Hard to say. It would definitely be the south of France, because I found my team, my coaches here. Would it be the south of France or Monaco? Monaco, tax-related or not, is a very calm country. Everything is very relaxed. Even if you want to party, you can find it all. But if you want a very quiet life, then this is paradise. I, let’s say, like to be relaxed, chilled, as they say, on chill. Therefore, I think that it`s not only about taxes here. So it turned out that I ended up in the south of France, and, of course, in terms of taxes, Monaco is better than France (laughs).”

– When will we see [your second daughter] Vika on social media?

“But there was already the first photo, it seems.”

– Well, to see her properly…

“I don’t know about that, we`ll see. Sometime, 100% you will see, when she gets a little older, when she starts walking, something like that.”

– So it`s still about age? She is very small, so are you afraid to jinx it?

“No, no. It’s just that she is still very small, she will change a lot. She will get a little older, there is no fear of jinxing. When she starts walking, it will be funnier, then we will post it,” Medvedev said in an interview for the YouTube channel BB Tennis.
