Former UFC welterweight title contender Colby Covington has voiced his opinion regarding lightweight champion Islam Makhachev potentially moving up to the welterweight division.
Covington is confident that Makhachev will not take the risk and move to welterweight, despite any suggestions that he intends to do so.
According to Covington, Makhachev is behaving similarly to Khabib Nurmagomedov, by suggesting a move to welterweight and a fight for a second title, but ultimately avoiding such a move. Covington stated, “Will Makhachev move up to welterweight? No. He`s doing the same thing his daddy Khabib did. `Oh, I’m going to move up to welterweight and fight for the second belt.` They`ll never do that. They just talk the talk, but they won`t do it.”
Covington further commented, “So he’s doing the same thing that Khabib did back in the day, pretending that you’re so tough, that you’re the greatest pound-for-pound fighter. But he’s not doing that. If he wanted to, he would have done it a long time ago.”
