Cincinnati Masters Director Bob Moran has addressed world No. 3 Alexander Zverev`s critical remarks concerning the perceived slowing down of the tournament`s tennis courts.
Moran stated, “We never try to create conditions that would favor individual players – that thought has never even crossed our minds. In fact, here in Cincinnati, the surface has always been fast, and yet Sinner and Alcaraz still reached the final. Over my three years working in Cincinnati, players consistently comment that the courts are very fast.”
He added, “This year, we genuinely aimed for uniformity across the entire American series – from Washington to the US Open. Our goal is to ensure consistent court speed (from medium-fast to fast) and consistent balls. This is precisely what players tell us they want.”
Earlier at the Shanghai Masters, Zverev had accused tournament organizers of standardizing and slowing down the courts. According to the German player, this provides an unfair advantage to the world`s top players, specifically Spain`s Carlos Alcaraz and Italy`s Jannik Sinner.
