Former world No. 4 Caroline Garcia will miss the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid due to ongoing back issues. The French player had already withdrawn from the Rouen competition earlier this week.
In a statement, Garcia said: `After further examinations on my back, it became clear that I will have to miss Madrid. I need time for treatment and recovery. I will do everything possible to be ready for Rome, but the main goal is to be strong and healthy for Roland Garros.`
She continued, `It`s tough to accept. After last year`s break, I came back happier, with a clear mind and more motivation. The results haven`t come yet, but I believed in my path. This setback hurts, but I will use it to come back stronger.`
Garcia concluded, `Right now, it`s important to control what is within my power, keep my eye on the goal, and find ways to appreciate the journey – even on difficult days. Paris remains a dream. And I will fight for it.`
