World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz has expressed his appreciation for the nuances of clay court tennis.
In a recent statement, Alcaraz noted, “On clay, the serve is not as dominant as it is on hard courts, and personally, I find this advantageous. Points are more frequently contested from the baseline, with fewer cheap points to be had off a serve.”
He continued, “Yes, it leads to longer rallies, and yes, our socks might get a little dirty,” he joked, “but that`s part of what I love about it. Clay court tennis showcases true tennis in my opinion. It`s not just about who can serve the fastest or end points in one or two shots. Clay encourages extended, strategic rallies.”
Alcaraz shared these thoughts during a press conference following his victory at the Monte Carlo Masters.
