World No. 10 Ben Shelton shared his thoughts following his quarterfinal loss to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon, where the score was 6/7(6), 4/6, 4/6.
Shelton described the match as extremely tough. He acknowledged Sinner played exceptionally well, significantly outperforming him on the day. Ben expressed disappointment with this outcome ending a otherwise strong tournament run. He stated he was prepared for a battle and didn`t want to be overly focused on his opponent at this crucial stage. Shelton noted Sinner`s excellent ball-striking and didn`t observe any changes in his typical game.
“Of course, I`m disappointed with the result,” Shelton commented during the post-match press conference. “However, it wouldn`t be right to say I`m dissatisfied with my clay and grass season overall. My consistent aim is to improve upon my Grand Slam results from the previous year, and this season I`ve managed to do that at all three major tournaments played so far. That`s something I hadn`t achieved before. Despite the sting of this particular defeat, I feel a sense of confidence heading into the US Open, built on my performances in the first three Grand Slams of the year. This loss is undoubtedly very painful.”
