UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has publicly expressed his firm belief that the promotion should have disqualified Ciryl Gane following a series of repeated eye pokes during their recent bout.
“All this intense training, just for it to end like this. What on earth was he thinking? He had already been warned twice before this incident, yet he still committed the foul again. How was he not disqualified after that? The crowd even started booing me, as if I were somehow at fault. I dedicated fourteen grueling months to training, only to have a finger jammed into my eye. Believe me, having someone`s finger deeply embedded in my eye was the absolute last thing I wanted to experience.”
Aspinall`s frustration is palpable, highlighting the extensive preparation fighters undergo, only for a crucial moment to be marred by what he perceives as a blatant foul that went unpunished. His comments underscore a significant concern among athletes regarding fair play and the consistent enforcement of rules in professional combat sports.
