Arsenal fans rejoiced as Gary Neville was firmly countered for his critical remarks about the Gunners during a live television broadcast.
Mikel Arteta`s team saw their pursuit of the league title falter after a 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday, widening the gap behind Liverpool.

Arsenal is likely heading for a third consecutive second-place finish this season.
Neville voiced concerns that the North London club appeared to have regressed this season, despite a strong 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Speaking on NBC Sports, Neville commented, “Arsenal`s Premier League form has been disappointing. If Manchester City wasn`t in contention for the title, Arsenal should have been ready to capitalize. But they aren`t even close to Liverpool.”
He added, “Considering Arsenal`s progress in recent seasons, it seemed they were developing into serious title contenders. However, this season indicates a step backward, particularly in their transfer strategy. They didn`t adequately address the need for centre-forward cover, especially with Havertz being their only option.”
Neville also pointed to a decline in Odegaard`s performance and the departure of Edu from the club as contributing factors, labeling the season as “a let-down.”
However, Robbie Mustoe, a former player for Middlesbrough, Oxford United, and Sheffield Wednesday, challenged Neville`s viewpoint.

Mustoe defended Arsenal`s title aspirations by highlighting the significant impact of injuries to key players. He conceded that Arsenal needs to invest in a striker to truly compete for the top spot but disagreed with the assessment that the team had regressed.
Mustoe stated, “I still anticipate them finishing second for the third time in a row. The injuries to crucial players at various points in the season must be taken into account. It`s understood that strengthening the forward line is a priority in recruitment.”
He continued, “I find it harder to heavily criticize the team given the circumstances. Liverpool is unique in having avoided major injuries. Injuries are impactful; maintaining consistency is challenging when key players are absent. They do need another striker, but I disagree with the notion that they`ve declined.”
Arsenal fans online expressed their approval of Mustoe`s robust defense against Neville’s criticism.
One fan commented, “Mustoe shutting down Neville is the highlight of my day.” Another echoed, “This is easily the best thing I`ve seen all Sunday.”
Further fan reactions included reminders that “Neville predicted Arsenal to win the league at the season`s start” and questions like, “How can it be regression when we are on the verge of the Champions League semis?”
