Ruben Amorim was spotted with a plaster on his knuckles after half-time during Manchester United`s Europa League victory.
The Red Devils were trailing 1-0 at the break following Mikel Jauregizar`s curled shot for Athletic Bilbao. That goal brought the visitors back into the tie, although United still held a comfortable 3-1 aggregate lead.
Amorim`s appearance with a plaster covering his knuckles after returning to the dugout immediately sparked speculation among fans online.
Supporters theorized about what might have caused Amorim`s injury, recalling the Portuguese manager`s past tendency to express his anger in potentially destructive ways. In January, after a defeat to Brighton, Amorim reportedly damaged a TV screen in the changing room during a heated team discussion. He later acknowledged his mistake and promised not to repeat such actions.
However, after noticing his injured knuckles during the interval on Thursday night, fans speculated that he might have had another physical outburst in the changing room.
Comments on social media included:
“Amorim has a plaster on the knuckles… has another TV took a right hook 😂”
“Did anyone check the TVs in the changing room is ok? Amorim had a plaster over his knuckles 🤣🤣”
“Amorim definitely punched something in the dressing room at half time. See the plaster on his left hand.”
“Amorim put a plaster on the back of his hand?”
Whatever instructions the United boss gave at half-time seemed to have the desired effect, as Mason Mount initiated the comeback with a goal 18 minutes from time.
Mount scored a brilliant turning shot and later sealed the impressive victory with a long-range effort from near the halfway line, after goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro had already secured the aggregate win for Manchester United.
