American tennis player Amanda Anisimova, ranked 16th in the world, was forced to withdraw from her Charleston WTA 500 tournament semi-final match against compatriot Sofia Kenin (ranked 44th).
Anisimova stopped playing in the first set with the score at 2-5 in favor of Kenin. The match lasted 29 minutes.
Previously, in the quarter-final against Emma Navarro, Anisimova took a medical time-out due to blister issues. She mentioned, “My skin just tore. I taped my fingers in the last two matches, the physio said she would do it again, and I got upset. Honestly, I hate taking a medical time-out for blisters. It hurt when I served for the match, and it was really necessary.”
The reason for Anisimova`s withdrawal from the semi-final is currently unknown.
In the tournament final, Kenin will face Jessica Pegula, the world`s fourth-ranked player, also from the USA.
