World No. 2 Alexander Zverev has commented on the doping control system within professional tennis.
“Honestly, it`s an annoying process because every single day we have to be at a specific location where we report details about where we`re going to be for about an hour each day. But at the same time, if they show up at a different hour than the one we specified, we still have to go back to the location,” he stated.
He shared an example: “For instance, this happened to me late last year in December when I was picking up my daughter from the airport in Nice. Then the doping control arrived; they had set my time for around 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning, but they came at 9:00 in the evening. They called me, saying, `You have to come back.` I said, `I can`t, I`m picking up a three-year-old child.` They replied, `No, you have to come back no matter what.`”
Zverev added, “This is even more annoying because they somewhat take away our freedom to live. If I`m picking up my daughter from the airport, that`s more important to me. This anti-doping system shouldn`t decide for you that you must drop everything and suddenly return. This system could be better, and this system could change a bit.”
